About
From Nigeria, raised in London, and now based in New York, TIA ADEOLA founder and designer Teni “Tia” Adeola graduated in May 2019 from The New School with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Culture and Media. Tia created the brand from her dorm room using her art history background and passion for the Renaissance period as inspiration. She aims to rewrite history through fashion, particularly for people of color.
Teniola Adeola’s Slashed by Tia has for a few years been recognized for its sheer and colorful tulle sets popularized by the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kali Uchis, and SZA. The Parsons graduate brought her brand to fame via her trademark ruffles and glamazon femininity. Adeola’s debut at New York Fashion Week marked a turning point for “Slashed by Tia,” as the show opened with a strikingly new look for the young designer—a ruched, silk, cerulean blue gown with a dramatic cutout along the torso.
The show was rich with experiments in fabric, as decadent tulles and silks moved gracefully and whimsically down the runway. Historical references adorned looks from renaissance-like frills, colors and a print of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus on a skirt to Josephine Baker references in the hair, makeup, and overwhelming use of pearls—straight down to the nails.
Teni Adeola’s designs are easily recognizable, billowy with structured ruffles that resonate with movement, sheer tops studded with pearls, and flamenco-inspired trousers.
