About
Anyango Mpinga is an eco-innovator who has embraced the principles of circular fashion to explore radical systems in textile design with the conscious consumer in mind. She founded the eponymous Contemporary Sustainable brand in 2015, now renowned for its reimagined white shirts, bold prints, balanced between androgyny, and a bohemian aesthetic that is also size-inclusive.
She designs with an ethereal quality, reminiscent of the romantic Victorian age while maintaining a sophisticated boyish edge. As a forward-thinking designer, Anyango is exploring the use of emerging technologies to create biodegradable textiles. Alongside her work with fashion, Mpinga has also started her non-profit organisation, Free As A Human Centred around raising awareness of human trafficking, the group works hand-in-hand with HAART KENYA to help change the lives of many women throughout the country.
Launched in 2018, Free As A Human is now registered as an official Non-Profit organisation in the US and the UK. Mpinga has developed an apprenticeship scheme, as part of the project, to offer the women a selection of career choices, helping them to take the next step towards a better. Mpinga’s strong purpose towards circularity and sustainability is one of the governing principles she bases each decision on.
