Olufunke Adepoju is the creative director of the Nigerian Eponymous brand, Funke Adepoju. (With her diffusion line known as Phunk Afrique). Her love for designing began a few years ago when she was in the University and started re-inventing old t-shirts and skirts for her classmates, giving them a more edgy, sophisticated appeal through beading and embellishments. After her graduation, her passion for design never died, and the requests for these pieces still kept trouping in from both friends and family. A friend offered her a slot at her networking event, and the response was positive. At that point, there was no turning back.
The brand Funke Adepoju was birthed in 2008 and delivered its first lookbook in the following year. The first collection titled, With Love From Lagos consisted of bespoke pieces for women, but soon after, due to subsequent demands, the brand extended its arms into the Ready-To-Wear and Childrenswear. Not long until people started taking note of this brand, and in 2009, it went ahead to win the City People Best Designer of the Year.
The brand has proudly showcased its pieces at the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2011, Heineken Lagos Fashion and design week 2015, ARISE fashion week 2012 and 2018, Studio 53extra, and also on the editorial pages of ThisDay Style, City People, TW Magazine, Genevieve magazine, e.t.c. The brand also boasts a wide range of clientele, including a host of Nigerian celebrities, entertainers, and dignitaries who has occasionally been spotted in Funke Adepoju pieces.
